OpenAI, the innovative creator of ChatGPT, has rolled out GPT-4o for free-tier users. This new multimodal large language model (LLM) outpaces GPT-4 in speed and boosts text, vision, and audio capabilities. According to CTO Mira Murati, GPT-4o will soon be accessible to free-tier users, and now, OpenAI is making these features available to everyone.
GPT Store: Now Open to Free Users
OpenAI now lets free-tier users browse and use custom bots from the GPT Store. Initially launched for paid subscribers, the GPT Store allows users to create their chatbots, called GPTs, for tasks like coding and writing. Although only premium subscribers can create and share GPTs, all users can now access these custom chatbots.
“All ChatGPT Free users can now use browse, vision, data analysis, file uploads, and GPTs,” OpenAI posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Limitations for Free-Tier Users
Free-tier ChatGPT users can access and interact with GPTs but cannot create new chatbots. The feature that allows the creation of new GPTs using text prompts and optionally a specific database is exclusive to premium subscribers.
Enjoy the Latest Features with GPT-4o
Free-tier users can now use the latest features powered by GPT-4o, according to OpenAI. However, paid subscribers will enjoy up to five times the capacity limits compared to free users. When users reach their GPT-4o limits, ChatGPT will seamlessly transition to GPT-3.5 to sustain the conversation.
Enhanced Safety Measures
OpenAI highlights GPT-4o’s enhanced safety measures, including filtered training data and refined model behavior post-training. This ensures a safer and more reliable user experience.

Specialized Language Models
It is important to note that GPTs are not general conversation chatbots like ChatGPT. They are designed with a limited scope and may not handle a wide range of queries. However, users can expect more precise answers within their specific domains, as these GPTs function like specialized language models.
Advanced Capabilities of GPT-4o
GPT-4o can comprehend tone, and background noises, and even convey emotions through its voice. Additionally, it provides multilingual support, making it a versatile tool for users worldwide.
OpenAI’s decision to extend GPT-4o tools to free-tier users marks a significant step in making advanced AI accessible to everyone. Free-tier users can now enjoy browsing and using custom GPTs, experiencing the enhanced capabilities of GPT-4o without needing a premium subscription. Stay tuned for more updates and features from OpenAI as they continue to revolutionize the AI landscape.
