It uses a new OLED display that Apple calls PROLED XDR, and it also brings the Dynamic Island to the Mac. The touchscreen MacBook Pro (PROLED XDR display)
This is the model that most people are searching for. After years of rumours, Apple has put a touchscreen on the MacBook Pro. Steve Jobs once called a vertical touchscreen on a laptop ergonomically bad, so this is a notable change in direction.
Touch on a normal laptop
The MacBook Pro stays a traditional clamshell laptop, and it does not turn into a tablet. The keyboard and trackpad are still central. Touch is an extra way to work: you can tap, swipe, scroll and pinch to zoom on the screen. Apple says that many existing apps can respond to touch through macOS, and that developers can add special touch controls. Apps that Apple names as benefiting include Canva, Microsoft Office apps, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve and Blender.
The PROLED XDR display
The display is a tandem OLED panel, and it is the first OLED screen on a Mac.
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Technology | Tandem OLED |
| Peak brightness | Up to 2,000 nits (HDR and SDR) |
| Refresh rate | Up to 120Hz, variable |
| Contrast ratio | 10,000,000:1 |
| Colour | P3 and Adobe RGB |
| Screen sizes | 14.2 inches and 16.3 inches |
Dynamic Island on the Mac
For the first time, a Mac has the Dynamic Island, which you may know from the iPhone. It gives you a place for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri. Apple also describes using it for things such as accepting an AirDrop request, controlling music and answering calls. The laptop runs macOS 27. Some reports also mention a glowing Apple logo on the lid.
Chips, memory and storage
The touchscreen models use the M5 Pro and M5 Max, not the M6. Configurations go up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. Apple says that the M5 Pro supports up to three external displays, and that the M5 Max supports up to four.
Design, battery and ports
- Weight: reported as about 3 pounds for the 14-inch model and about 4 pounds for the 16-inch model
- Battery: up to 24 hours, according to Apple
- Ports: three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack
- Wireless: Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6
- Camera and audio: a 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones and a six-speaker sound system

| 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 | 14-inch MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR | |
|---|---|---|
| Chip | M6 | M5 Pro (M5 Max also available) |
| Display | Liquid Retina XDR | Tandem OLED, touch, 120Hz |

The touchscreen model costs $900 more in the US and ₹1,10,000 more in India at the starting level, and it has a different chip family, so you cannot assume that one is faster in everything.
The M6 MacBook Pro makes sense if you want a new, fast MacBook Pro for coding, study, office work and general creative work, and you do not need touch or OLED.
The touchscreen MacBook Pro makes sense if you edit video, grade colour, do 3D work or design, and you want the brighter OLED panel, more memory, and touch controls in supported apps.
Wait for reviews if you are not sure. Independent tests of the touch experience, the OLED display, battery life and performance have not been published yet.
